• Invisible to boiler system
• Easily inspected and repaired
• Once optimized for your operation, it automatically heat recovers maximum heat
• May boost boiler effiiciency to over 90%

Options:
• Safety relief valve
• Galvanized or painted support structure
• A.S.M.E. stamped and National Board Registered coil
• Coolant temperature flow control valve

Condensing Economizers
-
What is the difference between a regular economizer and a condensing economizer?
-
In application the two are one-in-the-same, since they both recovery heat from an exhaust stream and return it to a colder water stream.  The difference is the temperature range in which the economizer is operated.  Our unit may look identical in outward appearance, but can be used in a condensing application if originally design to do so.  A large savings increase occurs when the flue gas temperature is decreased to under 135F, but this is only effective when burning natural gas or other clean fuels.
-
• A traditional economizer is operated in a hot environment, the tubes and the flue gases are over 200F, recovering only sensible heat from the flue gasses.  In this application there is relatively little corrosion potential on the inside or outside of the tube.

• A condensing economizer operates in a cooler environment, where the tubes and flue gasses may be well under 200F, and it is possible to recovery both sensible and latent heat from the flue gasses. In this application there is significant corrosion potential on the inside AND outside of the tube, and high alloy materials are required for a long service life.
-
When the flue gas temperature is lowered into the condensing range (135F for natural gas combustion), a portion of the water in the flue gas (normally 10-15% of the exhaust mass) is condensed back into a liquid. The heat that comes from the condensation adds significantly to the total recovery and translates directly to higher dollar savings $$$.

In construction and materials these units are different.  Traditional economizers are built mainly from carbon steel, with few stainless steel items.  Condensing economizers are built from stainless steel since they are expected to be wet on the tube exterior the majority of the service time.

90% Efficiency Boiler System

Saving money is directly related to improving efficiency; doing the same work with less fuel. Return on investment of this equipment can be under one year. Much is being advertised these days concerning new equipment to boost industrial steam boiler efficiency to the 90% range, something that was unheard of a decades ago. But new equipment may no be need to achieve this goal.

Cannon can offer retrofit upgrades to most existing firetube boilers to approach 90% efficiency at a greatly reduced cost, when compared to a new boiler.

Achieving high efficiency begins with evaluating and documenting the efficiency of your current system. Unfortunately, many customers do not know their overall steam system efficiency. Many customers are surprised when they find out that their efficiency is in the 60-70% range. Saving money is directly related to improving efficiency, doing the same work with less fuel.

Starting Point: A properly maintained firetube boiler can produce 80% efficiency, and when operating at 100psig stream pressure it releases 400F flue gas into the atmosphere. With an upgraded burner control system the boiler will produce this efficiency even a low loads, (below 50% MCR).

Primary Economizer: A properly sized primary economizer will improve this efficiency by 2-4% (approaching 85% overall), and releases 300F flue gas into the atmosphere. This unit will flow water from a deaerator and heat it from 227F to 260F.

Condensing Economizer: A condensing economizer will improve this efficiency by 5-6% (approaching 90% overall), and releases 130F flue gas into the atmosphere. This unit will flow softened city water for boiler makeup (or other purposes) and heat it from 60F to 100F. A minimum of 25% makeup water is required, and higher makeup water flow rates = higher efficiency gains.

cannonSteamAccumulator.jpg

Steam Accumulator

A Steam Accumulator is a smart method to reduce severe boiler loading and cycling when short-duration, high-flow rate steam is required. These steam requirements are sometimes found in industrial rubber manufacturing, foam manufacturing, autoclaves, food processing, or sterilization processes; an accumulator can store the high-pressure steam until it is needed.

An accumulator can reduce the fuel consumption and increase the service life of your boiler by stabilizing its operating conditions, though it cannot make up for a shortcoming in total boiler capacity. The accumulator acts as a flywheel or capacitor, storing energy until the process requires it.

Cannon's capabilities in engineering, design, code welding, rolling, large fabrication, and lifting capacity all contribute to our abilities in offering this product line. Our tradition of quality from our beginning in 1970, and our industry knowledge, allow us to custom design and build equipment exactly to customer's needs.

Heavy Duty Economizers

Custom Designed for Optimum Heat Recovery

Cannon Economizers are custom designed for optimum heat recovery on boilers of 20,000 to 250,000 pounds per hour rating. Cannon will design your economizer for gas, oil, coal, wood or special waste gas stream. Cannon manufactures the nickel brazed helical finned tubes used in all its economizers. For those special applications with more corrosive flue gases, Cannon will supply various metallurgical combinations of tube and fin material engineered for maximum heat recovery and corrosion resistance.

Feed Water Heaters
-
Compact Construction
The Cannon Feedwater Heater is a compact and durable box-type unit constructed to rugged boiler standards. This is not a disposable unit like many other designs, and will last as long as your boiler.

Rigid Steel Construction
The rigid steel frame is built to support the tube core, removable panels, the inlet and outlet transition and a stack of reasonable height. The frame is designed so that the unit can be supported overhead, avoiding any undue structural loads on your boiler outlet

Performance
Cannon's high-performance Feedwater Heater will extract heat from your boiler stack gases. This heat is then returned directly to the water feeding the boiler, considerably reducing your fuel costs. Our ASME feedwater heater core features extended surface finned tube elements.

Removable Panels
The Feedwater Heater has removable panels on each side and one end for easy inspection and cleaning, if necessary. All four sides of the unit are insulated with panel-type construction and feature a stainless steel interior for added corrosion resistance.
-
• Tubes do not have welds in the gas stream, (welds are a potential place for corrosion to start)
• Tubes are lightweight, 1" OD
• Tubes have metallurgical bond to the fins by nickel brazed fin attachments.
• Tubes are attached to headers with compression fittings, easing repairs and eliminating the need for boiler inspector costs.
• Various tube and fin material combinations are possible for superior heat transfer and fouling/corrosion resistance.
• Tubes, fins, and fin count are tailored to customer's fuel type and operation conditions.
• Headers are manufactured from heavy wall pipe, and are located outside the gas stream.
• All materials can be individually upgraded to more corrosion resistant grades.
• Side panels and header panel have fiberglass insulation seal welded between steel layers.

cannonventcondensor.jpg

Vent Condenser

The Concept:

The vent condenser is a plume abatement device. Vented steam is directed into the unit where it is cooled and condensed by cold plant water. Energy is continously recovered at a rate of 970 BTU's for every pound of steam contained in the plume. It is recovered in two forms, hot water and clean distilled condensate ready for productive use elsewhere in your operation.

Applications:

Cannon Vent Condensers can be used wherever steam is vented to the atmosphere. They are particulary suited for use with deaerators, high pressure condensate collectors, and condensing of other process vapor venting devices. Our standard unit is capable of collapsing 1,000pph steam at 5 psi. Other custom designed units are available upon request.

Benefits:
• Energy recovery from latent heat process.
• Water recovery from plume condensate.
• Stop moisture damage to the roofing structure.
• Prevent ice/snow build-up on the roof in winter months.
• Aesthetic reasons: removal of the steam plume.

Standard Features:
• No moving parts.
• Easily installed.
• Corrosion resistant materials.
• Safety protected.
• Extended surface.
• Computerized selection.
• One year guarantee.
• Quality construction.
